It's my birthday week and in lieu of gifts, I've asked friends to purchase a gift from Breakthrough's Arts and Science Academy's Amazon wish list. Breakthrough’s Arts and Science Academy provides developmental appropriate and challenging opportunities promoting creativity, collaboration, innovation, career exploration and personal and spiritual growth for children, their families and the adults in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood. Breakthrough fosters the development of the community by building healthy relationship networks, growing the skills of the men, women and children, and promoting the transfer of wisdom to our younger generation. They do that through homeless intervention, youth development and neighborhood intervention.
Breakthrough has always been a passion of mine since the days of when I was a young designer. I went to church with Breakthrough's founder Arloa Sutter and I would design things like photo boards and posters for their Annual Benefit dinner. But the times I enjoyed the most is when I sat with Arloa and her friends around her dining room table stuffing envelopes for Breakthrough. Those conversations and the wisdom from those ladies were priceless. Fast forward over a decade, I have developed a passion to help people, especially kids, to find their inner artist. I love to help nourish the artist and creativity in people. So this opportunity to help outfit Breakthrough's Arts and Science Academy is perfect blend of two of my passions. So if you're able, I would love for you to purchase something off their wish list. Even if it's something like a gallon of orange Gojo cleaner.
